Hello hello!

Random thoughts/things of the week:

  1. I’m going to Canberra for a tax roundtable on Friday which feels very official (I’m just going to watch as media). There’s a livestream link so you can watch too, if tax reform and productivity interests you!
Money win - hotel was super cheap, money loss - the flights were expensive.

  2. I hosted a Christmas in July dins with friends on the weekend and it was super fun! I organised drinks & decorations, someone did sides, someone did a cheese platter, someone did dessert and someone did a roast which worked out sooo perfectly. Very fun excuse to reach out and invite some friends over πŸŽ„πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ„

  3. I checked DiDi and Uber yesterday and saw DiDi had a random promotion on where you can use the codes GOHAWKS or GOBLUES to get 2Γ— 15% off. My DiDi ended up being only $23 for a 30 minute, ~20km drive which feels quite cheaper?! money win anyway

P.S. You can still take our 2 minute survey to let us know a bit about your financial journey. We’re working on new tools and resources to help you reach your financial goals - but we want to make sure they’re actually useful. It helps us help you. πŸ’Έ

So, what if there are no deals?

$723 saved on a camera (here’s how) πŸ“Έ

One of our team members recently needed a Fujifilm X-T50 camera ASAP -which meant it had to be in stock at a local store for pick up. She usually plans her purchases around bonus points or gift card offers but couldn’t wait this time (it’s not the end of the world). Here’s how she still managed to snag a deal:

πŸ›οΈ Step 1: Price Match

  • JB Hi-Fi had it for $2,799

  • Found the exact model at Georges Cameras for $2,160.73

  • JB matched it β€” $638.27 saved

πŸ’Έ Step 2: Stack Cashback

  • Bought Ultimate Home Gift Cards via ShopBack (3% cashback)
     → $66.75 saved

  • Plus used $18 already sitting in her ShopBack account

βœ… Total saved: $723.02

  • 🏷️ $638.27 from price matching

  • πŸ’° $66.75 cashback

  • πŸ’³ $18 from existing ShopBack balance

Even when you’re in a rush, it pays to:

  • πŸ‘€ Shop around

  • πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Ask for a better deal

  • 🧠 Stack discounts with gift cards or cashback

These steps work for any purchase, especially when you can’t wait around for a sale. We use cashback sites like ShopBack all the time - it's one of our go-to hacks for everyday and big ticket buys.

πŸ‘‰ You can sign up here for a $10 bonus! (or use this code: keXVYU)
*This is just the regular refer a friend code, not sponsored ☺️

You can also compare deals on the other cash back websites: Cashrewards & TopCashback. If I have time, I like to check all 3 and see who has the best deal.

πŸ“– The 12-Hour Walk by Colin O'Brady

I’ve been a bit over self help books recently but this one was really interesting! Colin shared different stories of his adventures, and then tied it back into actionable things you can do. There’s also an interesting chapter on money too πŸ‘€

I read this really quickly ☺️
