Helloooo

and happy dividend day! Not quite a deal, but it still feels like I’ve gamed the system when I get paid my dividends every quarter. This quarter I got $2,215 which is very exciting 🤗

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is around why I don’t reinvest them through a Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP). Here is a podcast episode that dives into it, but short answer:

  • I like seeing them hit my bank account, it’s motivating

  • DRPs make working out capital gains tax more complicated

  • Dividends are considered taxable income, if I use a DRP - the money for tax needs to come from somewhere else

Reasons you might choose to reinvest your dividends using a DRP:

  • Automated investing

  • No brokerage fees when reinvesting

  • Sometimes there is a discount

  • You don’t get the chance to spend the dividends

Utilities offer 💸

Earn up to 36,000 Velocity Points with AGL

AGL is offering Velocity Points when you sign up for an eligible internet or mobile plan via the Velocity website.

🤓 How to earn Velocity Points:

  1. Sign up to the AGL Velocity Points offer online

  2. Choose a plan
      • Internet: Home Fast, Superfast or Ultrafast
      • Mobile: Small, Medium or Large

  3. Add your Velocity membership number

  4. Earn points monthly for up to 6 months
→ Points are paid automatically within 10 business days of your bill

🛒 How it works:

  • Earn 1,000-3,000 Velocity Points per month, for up to 6 months

  • Available on AGL internet and mobile SIM plans

  • Points are awarded monthly, not all at once

  • All plans are month-to-month (no lock in) with no exit fees

📈 Points potential:

Sign up for both internet and mobile at the highest price tiers and you could earn up to 36,000 Velocity Points total. That’s enough for:

→ One-way economy flight from Sydney to Auckland (plus $170.99 in fees)
→ Return business class from Sydney to Melbourne (plus $90.02 in fees)

🧠 Things to know:

  • AGL Mobile runs on the Optus network

  • The prices and points above apply to your first 6 months only

  • After that, you stop earning points and plan prices increase

  • AGL has a 2.7-star rating on Trustpilot, so it’s worth weighing up customer reviews before switching

💸 Is it worth it?

It’s always worth shopping around but even if AGL’s plans cost a bit more, the points might justify it depending on your travel goals.

The AGL mobile plans seem decently priced, though. I currently have an Aldi mobile sim which is $29 for 25 GB of data.

On the podcast this week:

In episode 177 of Get Rich Slow Club, Tash, Ana and Lacey Filipich explore a fun hypothetical: what would you do with $100,000 if you were starting from scratch? They weigh up shares, property, and career moves while factoring in what you value most, like peace, flexibility, or higher returns and the power of learning as you go.

In episode 178 of Get Rich Slow Club, Tash and Ana wrap up the financial year with a personal finance check-in, reflecting on their wins, lessons, and what’s changed. They chat travel, business growth, burnout, and the reality of moving through different seasons in life and why it’s okay to slow down when you need to.
