Hello hello!

Life has felt verrrry expensive recently. I’m currently in the process of hiring staff for Tash Lends (new mortgage broking business coming in January!!!! Join the waitlist here). It’s been a lot of fun setting it up, but there have been so many little costs that really start to add up - seek ads, legal fees, accountant fees, business name registration, buying domains etc. I also paid someone very experienced to do skills tests with potential candidates which was pricey but so worth the money!

Money win for the week though: I got $3,000 off my HECS debt thanks to the government’s 20% reduction on student debts 💃🏻

Gift card offer 💳

20x Flybuys points on Apple gift cards at Coles

🛒 How it works

  • Available in store only at Coles

  • Buy Apple gift cards

  • Scan your Flybuys card at checkout (no activation required)

  • You’ll earn 20x points per $1 spent

💻 Example: MacBook Air (13 inch) $1,999

Here’s what it looks like if you pay using gift cards:

  • 3 × $500 Apple Gift Cards = $1,500

  • 1 × $499 Apple Gift Card = $499

  • Total spend: $1,999

You’d gain 39,980 Flybuys points from that purchase.

💡 What’s that worth

  • Around $199.90 off at Coles, Kmart, Target, Officeworks and more

  • ✈️ Or convert it into 19,990 Velocity Points

⚠️ Things to keep in mind

  • In store only

  • Limit of 5 gift cards cards per Flybuys member per day

  • Bonus points are capped at 50,000 points per day

  • Both limits align with a daily maximum spend of $2,500

  • If you want more than the daily cap, spread your purchases over a few days or separate Flybuys accounts

The results are in!

Last week, we asked the community to tell us the best deal or points hack that helped them prep for Christmas, plus what they’re planning to use their points for.

Here are some of our favourites!

I just bought a house and I need to connect all my utilities etc. I used comparison sites on ShopBack for power ($50 cash back) and internet ($90 cash back) and have been buying house stuff on days when I know there’s bonus cash back (e.g. $75 cash back when I bought toaster, kettle at microwave at Good Guys). All stuff I needed to buy / organise anyway!

Using the 7-Eleven App and using the fuel lock feature every Tuesday (or cheapest fuel day), then filling up within 10 days when suits you rather than battling crowds at fuel stations.

We were planning on giving our twin girls 2 iPad Airs next year for their graduation. When we saw your newsletter about 20x rewards points, we grabbed 4k worth of Apple gift cards! Bought a one way flight from Paris to Perth with the points. We bought the iPads using the gift cards last weekend when Apple store had the black friday event! We got $480 gift card back from that purchase. Big money win!

Making use of the free trial of Coles Plus to boost my points with increased grocery spending over Xmas!!
