Hello from Jordan,

I have spent the last few days in Jordan and have been loving it!

I ended up staying at the Movenpick in Petra and it’s up there as one of my best hotel experiences ever. A few things I loved:

  • It’s literally right across the road from the Petra entrance which is sooo convenient

  • I actually booked the Mercure and got upgraded to Movenpick (I think because the Mercure was being renovated?) I also got upgraded to a suite! So I paid $150/night for a ~$700/night room. Travelling in low season with Accor gold/platinum has gotten me so many good upgrades

  • The service was amazing! Everyone was so lovely and helpful, staff remembered my name and that I liked diet Pepsi & iced tea

  • Minibar was free!

  • I got free chips by the pool when I ordered my free welcome drink

  • They left mini dark chocolates on my bed every night

  • The building was beautiful

10/10 stay

💳 Which Gift Card Hack Is Worth It?

We’re revisiting a topic that people found really helpful a couple of months ago. It can be tricky to know which gift card deal gives you the most value out of a planned purchase especially when you’re eyeing a big ticket item so let’s break it down.

📊 Side by Side Comparison

Say you’re buying a new Dyson vacuum worth $1,449 at JB Hi-Fi and you’re looking at using one of the two most popular gift card offers:

🧠 Verdict

  • Want immediate savings? 10% off wins - you’ll pay $1,304.10 instead of $1,449, pocketing $144.90 instantly.

  • Building points? 20x points gets you ~28,980 bonus points, which can later be redeemed for groceries or transferred to Qantas or Velocity for flights. To put that into perspective, that’s a return economy flight between Sydney and Melbourne.

While Everyday Rewards and Flybuys points are redeemable for roughly the same value in-store, once transferred to Qantas or Velocity points, their worth for flight redemptions can vary a lot depending on flight paths, airline partners, and how you redeem them. If you'd like us to break that down in a future newsletter, let us know by replying to this email!

In case you missed it…. 🎙️

On the Get Rich Slow Club podcast this week:

In episode 193, Tash introduces Viv - producer of the podcast and the voice behind the GRSC socials. Viv shares her journey from growing up in a country town, moving to Sydney for work, and ultimately deciding to return to regional life to embrace a slower pace and build a tiny home with her partner.

In episode 194, Tash is joined by Brooko Moves to react to some of the wildest house inspection horror stories sent in by the community. From street cats taking over the property to permanently tilted homes and even real estate agents hiring a Ferrari to sell a house. This one’s equal parts chaotic, tragic and hilarious.

Things I’m loving this week:

📺 The Assessment - Prime Video

I randomly downloaded this for the plane and ended up watching it right at the end of my journey when I’d run out of other things to watch. It’s mildly uncomfortable, but intriguing and terrifying at the same time. Very black mirror vibes.
