Helloooo,
I watched The Big Short on the weekend and have spent the past week going down a rabbit hole & learning more about the 2008 financial crisis. I knew it was bad, but now that I understand the regulatory, advice and mortgage space a bit better today, it’s insane to reflect on what actually happened.
Back then in the US, you could get a NINJA loan with no assets, no income and no job. There were also negative amortisation loans, where you didn’t even need to pay the full interest each month, it would just be added to your loan and increase your loan balance. This system only worked if house prices always continued to increase. How wild????
If you want to go down the rabbit hole of how the financial system ended up that way, I’m currently reading Liar’s Poker by Michael Lewis and it’s very interesting. Non-fiction that definitely reads like fiction at times (the best).

Bonus points offer 💃🏻
Earn up to 15,000 Qantas points + 3,000 ALL Rewards points with All Accor+ Business Explorer
📝 How it works
If you have an ABN, joining the ALL Accor Plus Business Explorer program through Qantas Business Rewards gets you:
10,000 Qantas Points
3,000 ALL Reward Points
2 Stay Plus nights (two free nights each year across Asia Pacific)
Up to 30% off dining and 15% off drinks (solo or for groups up to 10)
Discounts on rooms, plus early check-in and room upgrades with Gold status
Membership costs $349 per year, and points typically land within 30 days.
💡 Why it’s worth it
10,000 Qantas Points covers a one-way economy flight from Melbourne to Sydney, and the two free nights alone can easily be worth $400-$800, depending on where you stay which often covers the membership cost.
⚠️ Things to keep in mind
Offer is for new Business Explorer members only
You’ll need to join through the Qantas Business Rewards offer and use the same ABN on both accounts
Qantas Points go to your business account, not your personal one
Stay Plus nights are Buy-One-Get-One-Free style and must be used on consecutive nights
💬 Bonus tip
If it’s your first time earning Qantas Points through your Qantas Business Rewards account, register for this current Qantas Business Rewards offer to get an extra 5,000 Qantas Points when you earn for the first time.
🧾 Verdict
A great option if you travel a couple of times a year as a small business owner or sole trader. The free nights make it worth it on their own, and the extra Qantas and ALL Points are an easy bonus.
I travel a lot so personally really like the Accor plus memberships (I’ve been a paid member for almost 3 years). Historically the membership has gone on special with a cash discount, so you might choose to hold out for a deal like that instead (no guarantees) but this points deal is still really solid.
